Daryl Mitchell is relishing the challenges that will confront Worcestershire and Durham under lights and with a pink duke ball during the Specsavers County Championship clash at the Emirates this week.
Opener Mitchell has some experience of the conditions that are likely to be faced through playing for MCC against Champion County Yorkshire in the UAE just over two years ago when he scored 64 in the first innings.
Play will get underway each day at 2pm and is scheduled to finish at 9pm with the same applying to all Championship games this week.
The idea is to enable England players such as Moeen Ali – and Durham’s Ben Stokes and Mark Wod – to get used to the scenario they will face in the England-West Indies Test at Edgbaston in mid August.
Mitchell said: “Fortunately I played in the MCC game and I’ve got a little bit of experience of those late starts.
“You play day-night cricket all the time in the one-day format so you are used to hanging around the hotel in the morning.
“But I think it’s a great concept and something different.
“When you’ve played as long as I have, it’s nice to have something different so I’m looking forward to the challenges we will face.
“But most important is to put in a performance and try and get a result and get those points on the board.”
