BROOKES CLAIMS SCALP OF FORMER WORCESTERSHIRE PLAYER DURING THREE WICKET BURST

Worcestershire all-rounder Ethan Brookes switched from being a batting hero for Adelaide University to being amongst the wickets on day one of the South Australian Cricket Association first grade meeting with Glenelg.

Brookes had scored a superb 82 not out the previous weekend to help his side pull off an unlikely looking one wicket win over West Torrens.

This weekend he was his side’s most successful bowler with three wickets – with his victims including former Worcestershire batter Jack Haynes.

It was a day of graft on a flat pitch for the bowlers but Brookes stuck to his task and ended with 21-2-68-3 after coming on first change.

Haynes batting at number four had looked set for a century but on 96 he holed out to deep mid wicket off the persevering Brookes.

He also dismissed opener and century-maker Joshua Roach but Adelaide will need to produce a sterling performance with the bat next weekend as Glenelg closed on 351-6 from 90 overs.

Worcestershire pace bowler Harry Darley finished with seven wickets in the game for Ulverstone who defeated Latrobe Demons by eight wickets on day two of a Cricket North West first grade fixture.

Darley had produced the heroics on day one during a stunning spell of 6-4 which put his team in the driving seat and Latrobe followed on.

They resumed on 10-0 and Darley took the new ball and dismissed opener and vice-captain Tim Moore.

He ended with figures of 7-1-23-1 and match analysis of 14.3-3-36-7 but the bowling hero on day two was Brandon King with 20-2-73-7.

Darley was not required to bat as Ulverstone were set a modest 49 target after bowling out Latrobe for 165 in 53.1 overs.

Worcestershire keeper-batter Gareth Roderick skippered Green Point to a nine wicket win in the Western Province Premier Division nine wicket win over Belville.

Roderick has been a key figure during the first half of the season but was not required to bat as Aaron Smit (91 not out) and Gareth Bevan (87 not out) saw Green Point to their 186 target in the 37th over.

Henry Cullen, the leading run-scorer in the South Australian Cricket Association Premier Cricket competition, spent the day in the field for Woodville against Prospect (230 all out in 89.4 overs).

Worcestershire’s keeper-batter will be looking to continue his fine form on the second day next weekend following his fine unbeaten century against Northern Districts.
