HAYNES STEADIES INNINGS BUT ENGLAND LOSE TRI-SERIES FINAL

Jack Haynes finished as joint second top scorer for England Under-19s when they were beaten by Sri Lanka in the final of the Tri-Series in the Caribbean.

The Worcestershire CCC batsman came to the wicket at 10-2 in pursuit of a 266 target at Coolidge Cricket Ground.

He helped to steady the innings during a partnership of 64 in 17 overs with Jordan Cox.

Eighteen-year-old Haynes collected 32 off 57 balls with two boundaries to add to his 39 in Thursday’s dress rehearsal for the final.

He eventually fell to leg spinner Kavindu Nadeeshan.

Cox, who went onto make 77, added a further 69 for the fourth wicket in harness with Lewis Goldsworthy (32).

But, after England had reached 146-4 in the 38th over, they lost their last six wickets in six overs for 42 runs and were dismissed for 188.

Navod Paranavithana (109) and Kamil Mishara (69) laid the foundations for Sri Lanka’s 265-9 via an opening stand of 124 in 25 overs.
