ALEX GIDMAN POST MATCH REACTION – RAPIDS VERSUS FALCONS

Worcestershire First Team Coach Alex Gidman gave his reaction after the Rapids went down by 20 runs to Derbyshire Falcons in the Vitality Blast at the Pattonair County Ground.

The Rapids were unable to chase down a 182 target and closed on 161-9 despite useful knocks from Martin Guptill (45), Callum Ferguson (37) and Ed Barnard (29 not out).

Gidman said: Credit to Derbyshire, I thought they played a really good game. We were just a few per cent off and I thought they were top drawer.

“They kept the squeeze on us just enough. We couldn’t get that one partnership or one innings that would have got us closer.

“But we weren’t a million miles away and we know there’s quite a lot more in the tank. We haven’t quite got it together over 40 overs tonight.

“I think it was a big toss as well, it looked a really nice wicket to start with and generally here they do tire a little bit so I think it got slightly harder to bat on.

“But it was a good wicket and it was just one of those games where the opposition outplayed us.”

The Rapids travelled up to Durham immediately after last night’s game in readiness for tomorrow evening’s encounter at the Emirates Riverside.

Durham are one point behind the Rapids in fifth spot.
