Worcestershire U18’s travelled to Bromsgrove School on Monday, for a second T20 double-header in as many days, looking to build on their positive momentum gathered against Nottinghamshire.
Having won the toss and electing to bat in the day’s opening game, Worcestershire had plenty of cause for optimism throughout their batting card, as all of the top four made quick fire contributions on their way to amassing 172-7 in their allotted 20 overs.
Fin Goodman (25 off 14) and Josh Harrison (31 off 23) picked up where they left off, combining to add 43 for the first wicket, sharing ten boundaries between them.
Toby Cox (22) and Sam Essenhigh (44) displayed more of their quality as their side powered towards a big total, but a strong repost from the Somerset bowlers saw them pull things back in the final overs.
In defence of their score, two big innings from Somerset’s top order batters formed the backbone of the chase, as Josh Leach stood out with impressive figures of 2-28 from his four overs.
Lucian Brockman picked up a wicket of his own, and a run-out was enforced after some sharp work by Ben Jones, but the Westcountry outfit sealed a six-wicket victory in the 16th over.
Any chance to right the wrongs from the previous match, were dashed in the third over of the game against Northants, as rain forced an abandonment with Worcestershire 21-3 in the fourth over.
