COUNTY SIGNING HAMISH SKIPPERING NEW ZEALAND ‘A’

Worcestershire CCC 2020 overseas signing, Hamish Rutherford, is captaining New Zealand ‘A’ in their current unofficial four-day Test against India ‘A’ at Christchurch.

The opening batsman was dismissed for 28 as New Zealand closed the opening day on 105-2 from 33 overs in reply to India’s 216 all out in 54.1 overs.

Rutherford struck five fours in his 39 ball knock before he was first out with the total on 35 in the 10th over.

The 30-year-old collected two boundaries in the second over of the innings from Ishan Porel.

But the same bowler dismissed Rutherford when he was caught behind.

On day two the Black Caps continued their first innings total to 385-5 off 114 overs – a lead of 169 at the half-way stage of the game.

The two teams will play another unofficial Test starting next Thursday at the Bert Sutcliffe Oval, Lincoln.

Rutherford’s international involvement meant he was absent from Otago’s Ford Trophy re-match with Central Districts in Nelson – and his side went down by 55 runs.

He had scored 155 – his highest List A score – in the first meeting between the teams in the competition on Sunday.
