WORCESTERSHIRE TO LAUNCH PRE-SEASON PROGRAMME WITH TWO DAY GAME AT NORTHAMPTON

Worcestershire will finally launch their pre-season match programme with a two-day fixture against Northamptonshire at the County Ground, Northampton on Thursday and Friday.

The players have been able to put in four days of practice at Kidderminster since last Thursday but after the games with Gloucestershire and Oxford UCCE were called off because of the weather, they are optimistic of tasting some action over the next two days.

Worcestershire will bat for the entire first day and bowl throughout day two, with play getting underway at 10.30am on both days.

New signings Adam Hose and Matthew Waite, who had a loan spell at New Road last summer, are part of the squad.

Head Coach Alan Richardson said: “The idea really is to get three two-hour sessions in on both days, no real restrictions on overs, but it will be close to 90 overs in a day, weather permitting.

“We will bat first on the first day, and then Northamptonshire will bat on the second day.

“It is just trying to get the most of it that we can, and to get out and spend some time in the middle and try and get the rhythm of the game is really important.

“We managed to get outside at Kidderminster for four days and progressively got better in terms of the intensity starting to shift up a little bit.

“The boys have had an excellent attitude, and we’ve managed to get some fielding done as well. We’ve had to dodge the odd shower, but generally, it’s been a really good four days outside, which not everyone had that chance to do around the country.”

Worcestershire will field a squad comprising of batters and all-rounders on day one, and the bowlers will comprise the bulk of the squad on day two.

Hose, Jack Haynes and Ed Pollock will remain with the squad from day one for fielding purposes.

*Please note the fixture is being played behind closed doors.
