New Worcestershire signing Ben Allison helped Brentwood CC to win the ECB National Club Championship final with a nine wicket success over Northern CC at Visit Worcestershire New Road.
Allison, who has signed a three year contract with Worcestershire until the end of the 2027 season, made a key contribution, with the new ball, to his side’s success.
The all-rounder, who will leave Essex at the end of the current campaign, made two crucial breakthroughs after Northern had been put into bat.
Allison, who has spent two successful loan spells with Worcestershire, dismissed openers Chris Laker (6) and Liam Grey (2) to reduce Northern to 10-2.
He struck in his second and third overs of an initial four over spell and returned to bowl the 30th and 32nd and then the 38th and 40th overs as Northern closed on 178-6 thanks chiefly to Tyler McGladdery’s unbeaten 93.
Allison finished with figures of 8-1-31-2 but McGladdery helped Northern recover from 118-6 and add 60 from the final 6.3 overs in reaching 178-6.
Aaron West (71 not out) and Will Buttleman (73 not out) then featured in an unbroken stand of 150 as Brentwood reached their target in 36.1 overs.
Allison played three Championship matches on loan at Worcestershire at the end of the season and was part of the team which clinched promotion against Yorkshire at Headingley.
He then came back for two Championship games in the middle of this season and picked up five wickets in the win over Durham at the Seat Unique Riverside.
