WORCESTERSHIRE RECEIVE POSITIVE NEWS ABOUT JOE LEACH FITNESS

Worcestershire have today received encouraging news about the fitness of key all-rounder Joe Leach.

Leach underwent a scan after missing the LV=Insurance County Championship match with Derbyshire at the Incora County Ground because of a back problem.

Fears about a possible stress fracture have been allayed, and Cricket Steering Group Chairman, Paul Pridgeon, is optimistic Leach will be back available to play within the not too distant future.

He said: “It is a disc problem rather than a stress fracture, so we are hoping that he should be fit and bowling again and back to normal soon.

“The scan results came back yesterday (Thursday), and it is a much more positive outlook than it might have been. It is good news.

“Joe is a talisman for the team, one of our front-line bowlers, and it is always good to have him in the side.

“I would hope he would be back in the mix for the next Championship match, so we are delighted.”

Worcestershire will return to Championship action on June 12 for the return fixture with Durham at the Emirates Riverside.
