Worcestershire County Cricket Club proudly marked a significant milestone yesterday as its community Soup Kitchen initiative served its 3,000th meal. Since its launch, the Soup Kitchen has provided vital support to vulnerable members of the local community, addressing pressing issues like food insecurity and social isolation.
Partnered with Worcestershire County Council, the Soup Kitchen operates every Wednesday between 11am and 1pm from the Club’s Severn Suite, accessible via the main reception off New Road.
Offering a warm, welcoming space each week, what began as a seasonal outreach effort has grown into a year-round initiative, providing not only hot meals but also companionship and a safe community space for those in need.
Ashley Giles, CEO of Worcestershire County Cricket Club, commented on the occasion:
“Reaching this 3,000-meal milestone highlights the vital role that our Soup Kitchen has come to play in the Worcester community.
“It’s more than just meals—it’s a place for people to feel seen, connected, and supported.
“This milestone is a testament to our commitment to making a meaningful difference beyond the pitch.
“We couldn’t have achieved this without our dedicated volunteers and partners at Worcestershire County Council.”
The Soup Kitchen serves approximately 50 individuals each week, bringing together club staff, volunteers, and community members. Through collaboration with local charities and organisations, the Club ensures that the initiative reaches those most in need, including elderly residents, care leavers, and individuals experiencing homelessness.
