WORCESTERSHIRE CONTINUE BUILD-UP TO NEW SEASON WITH EDGBASTON DOUBLEHEADER

Worcestershire continue their build-up to the new season with two three-day games against local rivals Warwickshire at Edgbaston, starting tomorrow (Monday).

One side will be in action at the main arena, while another game will take place between the two counties at the adjacent Portland Road ground.

Club Captain Brett D’Oliveira will lead the team on the first team ground, with Ed Pollock making a first return since he left Warwickshire for Warwickshire at the end of last season.

Pollock showed good form in the two-day friendly against Hampshire at the Ageas Bowl with scores of 36 and 85.

A century-maker in the drawn game with Oxford UCCE in The Parks, Jack Haynes will skipper the side at Portland Road.

Worcestershire Head Coach Alex Gidman said: “It was an excellent work-out for us in the two games. Oxford are really good opposition, actually. The wicket was extremely flat and slow, making it hard to take wickets.

“We needed good discipline and good concentration with both bat and ball, so it was a good little test from that point of view and good to start getting the cricket fitness levels up mentally and physically.

“A slightly different challenge at Hampshire with a bowler-friendly wicket but again a different set of challenges but I know will only have been good from the point of getting cricket fitness in and the mental and physical side, getting ready for games.”
