WORCESTERSHIRE 2025 SIGNING SUPER SMASH HOPES STILL ALIVE

Worcestershire 2025 overseas signing Jacob Duffy’s hopes of participating in the knockout stages of the New Zealand Super Smash T20 tournament are still alive.

Duffy’s side, Otago Volts, remain in the third and final spot available to progress from the group stages after Wellington’s last over win over home side Auckland in the early hours of today (Monday).

Ex Worcestershire Vitality Blast player, Michael Bracewell, struck the winning six with four balls to spare as Wellington chased down a 151 target to win by six wickets.

Duffy, who is at Visit Worcestershire New Road for the first half of the season, and his Otago team mates have completed their group programme with 18 points from 10 games.

Now they must await the results of the Auckland-Central Districts (January 29) and Wellington-Northern Districts (January 30) games to see if they go through.

Auckland and Wellington have both accumulated 16 points from their opening nine fixtures.

Duffy has been available for the second half of Otago’s campaign after performing successfully in white ball cricket for New Zealand against Sri Lanka.

His figures since returning to domestic T20 action include 3-25 versus Wellington and 2-19 against Northern Districts.

He is available after the opening game versus Somerset for the next block of six County Championship games with Worcestershire plus at least one of the two red ball games in June.

The 30 year old is also contracted to play in the eight Vitality Blast games with the Rapids until the end of June.

If the Volts qualify, they will participate in the Eliminator on February 1 with the final staged in Wellington 24 hours later.
