WORCESTERSHIRE 2022 OVERSEAS PLAYER MATTHEW WADE SMASHES UNBEATEN 83 IN BIG BASH

Worcestershire CCC 2022 overseas player Matthew Wade struck an unbeaten 83 off 54 balls to help Hobart Hurricanes to a nine run win over Sydney Thunder in the Big Bash League in Melbourne.

Wade returned after a two game break to skipper the Hurricanes and switched from an opening role to number three with deadly effect.

He hit two sixes and eight fours and put on 91 for the second wicket with Caleb Jewell in just 7.5 overs.

His efforts enabled the Hurricanes to total 177-6 and they then restricted the Thunder to 168-9 to seal a win which tightens their grip on the play-off berth in fourth spot

Wade, who is available to play all formats for Worcestershire, came to the wicket at 29-1 in the fifth over and was quickly into his stride with two boundaries in an over from leg spinner Tanveer Sangha.

He survived one chance on 18 and went onto complete a 33 ball half century.

Wade hooked Brian Cutting over fine leg for six and also cleared the ropes with a shot off his pads in the penultimate over from Nathan McAndrew.

He ended his innings with a strike rate of 153.70 and his  superb effort followed on from his 93 earlier in the competition against Sydney Sixers.
