Worcestershire Women’s Rapids spinner Phoebe Brett has been included in the England squad for the 2025 ICC Women’s Under-19 World Cup.
Brett is part of a 15 strong squad who will contest the tournament in Malaysia from January 18 to February 2.
She follows in the footsteps of Ellie Anderson and Charis Pavely who were Women’s Rapids players when selected for the 2023 tournament when England reached the final.
Brett has made impressive strides forward since stepping up from the Under-15s into the Rapids senior side last summer and helping them win the West Midlands Regional Cup.
She has formed an impressive partnership with fellow spinner Flora Bertwhistle during the 2024 season and played a key role in the Rapids finishing in the top three of the ECB T20 and 50 over competitions.
Brett ended the summer with an impressive tally of 18 wickets from seven games and for the second year running was voted the Rapids Young Player Of The Year.
Last winter she secured a spot on the Central Sparks Academy for the first time.
Worcestershire Women’s Rapids captain, Chloe Hill, said: “Phoebe has made massive progress in a short period of time since coming into the side as a 15-year-old.
“It’s great for Worcestershire to see another player selected for the Under-19 World Cup.
“It’s another player who has come through the pathway and ultimately gone onto earn international recognition and the depth and strength of the various age groups is there for all to see.”
England are in Group B and will face Ireland, Pakistan and USA with all matches taking place in Johor.
Sixteen teams are participating in the 41 match event.
Chris Guest, England Women U19 Performance Lead, said: “What excites me most about working with the under-19 age group is the constant cycle of new talent and new groups coming through.
“We’ve named a squad which features some players who have been involved at this age group before and some who haven’t.
“This World Cup is a part of these players’ journey, not the end or the start and our message to them is to embrace the challenge, evolve ourselves and enjoy the ride.
“Naturally we want to do well but the programme is about developing these players in the future and for the long-term.”
