Worcestershire Women’s Rapids duo Sarah Glenn and Emily Arlott featured in a superb match-winning stand for Central Sparks in their Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy triumph over Northern Diamonds at Headingley yesterday.
The pair smashed an unbroken 87 off just 8.1 overs for the ninth wicket as the Sparks chased down a formidable 280 target in 50 overs with ten balls to spare.
Glenn remained unbeaten on 71 from 52 balls with six sixes and one four.
Fellow all-rounder Arlott gave her excellent support with 24 not out from 18 deliveries with one six and three fours.
Amy Jones had earlier hit a splendid run-a-ball 114 to set up the run chase.
The Rapids players had also made significant contributions with the ball in a Northern Diamonds total of 279 all out in 49.2 overs.
Arlott took the new ball and dismissed England star Natalie Sciver who was caught at mid-wicket for just seven, and she had overall figures of 8-1-44-1.
Glenn was the fifth bowler used and bowled her ten overs for just 35 runs and the wicket of Sterre Kalis (36).
The Rapids connection was further strengthened with Issy Wong, who spent a loan spell at New Road from Warwickshire, picking up five wickets for 49 balls.
Lauren Winfield-Hill was the mainstay of the Diamonds innings with 110 off 126 balls.
