WOMEN’S RAPIDS CAPTAIN NARROWLY MISSES OUT ON TROPHY GLORY AT LORD’S

Worcestershire Women’s Rapids captain Chloe Hill narrowly missed out on more trophy glory as Southern Vipers went down by two runs to Northern Diamonds in the final of the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy at Lord’s.

Wicket-keeper-batter Hill had led the Rapids to success in the ECB T20 County Cup Group Two, and they also finished runners-up in the West Midlands Regional Cup.

She has been on loan from Central Sparks to the Vipers this summer and, in the RHF Trophy, has scored 111 runs, including knocks of 55 versus Sunrisers and 43 not out against Thunder.

But the Vipers just missed out on a hat-trick of wins in the tournament against opponents they had defeated in the previous two finals.

Hill was at the wicket in the final over with the Vipers chasing a target of 215-9 in 50 overs.

She scored four off four balls but then went for a big hit on the leg side and was caught off a skier at mid-wicket, and the Vipers fell just short on 213-9.

Lauren Winfield-Hill, the leading run scorer in the competition, top-scored for the Diamonds with 65, with captain Georgia Adams (3-34) the most successful Vipers bowler.

Adams also top-scored with 70 for the Vipers.
