Ross Whiteley’s performance for Worcestershire Rapids yesterday evening has propelled him into the top 10 of the most sixes per match ratio in the history of T20 cricket.
The left hander cleared the rope twice against Derbyshire Falcons to take his sixes tally in his T20 career to 83 from just 68 games – an average of 1.22 per game.
That has lifted him into level joint 10th spot in the all-time list alongside New Zealander Martin Guptill.
It is another confirmation of the destructive hitting power of Whiteley in the shortest format of the game.
In his first full season of T20 Blast cricket for Worcestershire in 2015, he smashed 29 sixes – a tally only equalled in domestic cricket that summer by Chris Gayle.
Whiteley managed another 15 last summer and his hitting power is one of the most potent weapons in the Rapids armoury.
His ability to propel the score along at a frenetic rate in the latter stages of an innings was again evident against the Falcons even though the Rapids eventually went down by seven wickets.
