Ross Whiteley’s performance for Worcestershire Rapids yesterday evening has propelled him into the top 10 of the most sixes per match ratio in the history of T20 cricket.
The left hander cleared the rope twice against Derbyshire Falcons to take his sixes tally in his T20 career to 83 from just 68 games – an average of 1.22 per game.
That has lifted him into level joint 10th spot in the all-time list alongside New Zealander Martin Guptill.
It is another confirmation of the destructive hitting power of Whiteley in the shortest format of the game.
In his first full season of T20 Blast cricket for Worcestershire in 2015, he smashed 29 sixes – a tally only equalled in domestic cricket that summer by Chris Gayle.
Whiteley managed another 15 last summer and his hitting power is one of the most potent weapons in the Rapids armoury.
His ability to propel the score along at a frenetic rate in the latter stages of an innings was again evident against the Falcons even though the Rapids eventually went down by seven wickets.
Here is the list of the most potent six hitters in T20 history in terms of their sixes per match ratio:
1 Chris Gayle Sixes 747, Matches 296, Sixes Per Match Average 2.52
2 Chris Lynn 165, 92, 1.79
3) Evin Lewis 105, 59, 1.78
4) Rassie van der Dussen 83, 57, 1.46
5) Hamilton Masakadza 150, 112, 1.34
6) David Warner 314, 236, 1.33
7) Brendon McCullum 361, 282, 1.28
8) Kieron Pollard 470, 376, 1.25
Shane Watson 287, 230, 1.25
10) ROSS WHITELEY 83, 68, 1.22
Martin Guptill 216, 177, 1.22
