WHITELEY HITS HALF CENTURY FOR MCC IN PAKISTAN

Ross Whiteley scored a half century for Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) during the second match of their 2020 tour of Pakistan.

The Worcestershire CCC all-rounder made 51 off 39 balls in the 50 over encounter against Pakistan Shaheens at Aitchinson College in Lahore today.

Whiteley came to the wicket at 42-3 in the 13th over MCC had been put into bat.

He struck three six and five fours and added 68 for the fourth wicket with Will Rhodes (27).

Whiteley was eventually fifth out with the total on 113 but an unbeaten 47 from Roelof van der Merwe helped MCC total 204-9.

In reply Oliver Hannon-Dalby picked up two early wickets and at 114-5 the game was in the balance.

But an unbroken stand of 91 between Imran Rafiq (66 not out) and Hassan Mohsin (49 not out) saw the home side to victory with five overs to spare.

Whiteley had seen MCC over the finishing line in their opening fixture – a T20 match against Lahore Qalandars at the Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore.

Van der Merwe (2-17 in four overs) had been the most successful MCC bowler as Lahore were restricted to 135-5.

Ravi Bopara (42), Samit Patel (31) and skipper Kumar Sangakkara (25) all made useful contributions before

Whiteley – 10 not out from nine balls batting at number six – helped MCC to 136-6.

*Worcestershire Women’s Rapids spinner Sarah Glenn returned 1-19 from three overs as England Women (136-4) defeated New Zealand Women (134-9) in a ICC Women’s T20 World |Cup warm-up match in Adelaide today.

Glenn dismissed number three Suzie Bates for 33 and then Danni Wyatt (42) and skipper Heather Knight (45 not out) saw England home in 18 overs.
