WAITE INCLUDED IN 13 STRONG WORCESTERSHIRE SQUAD TO FACE LEADERS

Matthew Waite is included in the Worcestershire squad to face Division Two leaders Nottinghamshire in the LV=Insurance County Championship at New Road beginning on Tuesday (10.30am start).

Waite has signed on loan from Yorkshire for the final two matches of this summer before making a permanent switch to Worcestershire on a three-year contract until the end of the 2025 season.

He is set to replace fellow all-rounder Joe Leach, whose partner is expecting their second child imminently.

Worcestershire have announced a 13-strong squad, the 11 players in action against Sussex minus Leach plus Waite, Ben Cox and Adam Finch.

Head Coach Alex Gidman said: “Joe is going to miss this game because they are expecting their second child to be born any day, so Matthew will come into the squad.

“Matthew was not going to be playing much more cricket for Yorkshire, and he will add a bit of freshness, and it will be really good for the guys for these last couple of games.

“We had a short stint with him on loan earlier in the season, and he settled in immediately, was very comfortable, and became very popular with the lads straight away.

“Looking forward to that continuing, and it allows him to get a bit more of a feel for the club before he moves down permanently in a few months.

“The most important thing is how we perform, whether we give ourselves a chance of winning games, and everyone is aware of some of the positions we have got into this year.

“We haven’t quite managed to get some of those over the line, through weather or performance, but all 12 games have been very competitive.

“Looking forward to doing that again for these final couple of games.”
