TWO WICKETS FOR TONGUE AND TRIALIST CLARKE FOR SECONDS

Josh Tongue and trialist Ollie Clarke picked up two wickets apiece for Worcestershire Seconds on the opening day of the four-day encounter with Warwickshire Seconds at Portland Road, Edgbaston.

Tongue removed opener AG Oxley (6) with 24 on the board – caught behind by captain-keeper Alex Milton – and the same combination sent back Rob Yates (49) after he had added 61 with Dan Mousley.

Mousley was joined by Tim Ambrose and the pair both hit centuries and featured in a third wicket partnership of 169 in 36 overs.

The former, who played for England Under-19s alongside Worcestershire’s Jack Haynes in the recent Tri-Series, eventually fell to Josh Breed for 113 – one of three catches for Josh Dell.

Ambrose departed for 103 off the bowling of Clarke, a slow left armer who has been playing Minor Counties cricket for Oxfordshire this summer.

Clarke also picked up a wicket from the final ball of the day and Warwickshire, who had elected to bat, closed on 302-5 from 79.1 overs.

Tongue ended with figures of 13-4-31-2, Clarke 6.1-1-35-2 and Breed 15-1-78-0 with Charlie Morris (17-5-68-0), Ed Bragg (11-1-39-0), Adam Finch (14-3-36-0) and Ollie Westbury (3-1-7-0) the other bowlers used.
