TONGUE CONTINUES COMEBACK PROGRAMME FOR SECONDS IN CHAMPIONSHIP

josh tongue will continue his comeback programme when he plays for worcestershire seconds in their final championship match of 2019 against nottinghamshire at notts sports club beginning tomorrow (wednesday).

the paceman has been out of action for two months with a nerve tissue injury in his upper arm.

but he bowled eight overs, spanning two spells, for barnards green in the birmingham premier league at the weekend against leamington and had figures of 8-1-22-1.

tongue is earmarked to bowl an allotted number of overs in both innings against nottinghamshire and, if all goes to plan, to put himself in contention for next week’s three-day game versus australia at New Road.

club captain joe leach will lead the side which includes george rhodes who has been part of the vitality blast squad during the opening phase of the competition.

the seconds moved into seventh spot in the north division as a result of their win over durham at maiden castle.

victory and-or a sizeable points haul from their final game could see them climb several rungs in the table.

worcestershire are only seven points behind warwickshire and durham, who have already completed their programme, and would almost certainly also overhaul nottinghamshire with a victory.
