HEAD COACH SAYS TAYLOR REAPS BENEFITS OF POSITIVE MINDSET

Head Coach Alan Richardson believes Worcestershire all-rounder Tom Taylor reaped the benefits of having a “more positive mindset” when part of the attack during the second half of last season.

Taylor made up for lost time after missing the opening two months of the campaign through injury after his move from Northamptonshire on a four year contract.

He finished as the Rapids leading wicket-taker in the Vitality Blast with 17 scalps and then made an impact with bat and ball in the Metro Bank One Day Cup as one of the handful of senior players in a young and inexperienced side.

Taylor also ended the Vitality County Championship campaign on a high note with 27 wickets from just six appearances, including a career best 6-28 against Warwickshire after a sensational five wicket burst on the third morning.

Richardson said: “Tom’s role from Northants changed a little bit and we also had a bit of a chat about his mindset.

“He talked about it a lot and he had probably gone quite defensive in not necessarily how he bowled, but his mindset, about trying to be more economical, and I still think if you bowl well, that will take care of itself.

“But it was really nice for him to have an opportunity to think more about wickets and think with a more positive mindset than anything else.

“It is really important for the guys to enjoy your cricket and I think if you are looking to do the positive things, then you’ve got more chance of trying to enjoy it.

“Tommy in white ball cricket did extremely well, got some important wickets for us especially up top, and it looked like he really enjoyed his role of opening in the Championship as well.

“He put some really good spells together and was a huge part of us winning some important games.”
