Rehaan Edavaleth scored a superb century as Worcestershire Academy made it two wins out of two in the Royal London Under-17 County Cup with a eight wicket success over Gloucestershire at Rockhampton.
Academy Coach Elliot Wilson described Edavaleth’s unbeaten 112 as “a special day from a special talent” as a target of 262 was achieved with 2.1 overs to spare.
He struck 14 fours in his 167 ball knock and shared an opening stand of 169 with Pete Clark who made 71 from 84 deliveries with seven boundaries.
Edavaleth and Dan Holland (32 not out) – a century-maker in the opening win over Somerset at RGS Worcester – saw the Academy over the finishing line via an unbroken partnership of 94.
Gloucestershire totalled 261-8 in their 50 overs with opener Daaryoush Ahmed hitting 136.
He put on 61 for the opening wicket before Hassan Akram broke the partnership by dismissing James Boyle (24).
Matt Davis claimed two quick wickets to reduce Gloucestershire to 72-3 but Ahmed featured in stands of 83 with Joe Millard and 71 with Ewan Gregg.
Ed Bragg claimed the scalp of Ahmed – seventh out at 250 – and finished with 3-59 from his 10 overs.
Davis ended with figures of 8-1-45-2, Luke Tulacz 7-0-47-1, Akram 7-0-30-1 and Aaron Tomson 7-0-28-1 while skipper Pete Clark bowled tight 10 overs for 37 runs.
The Academy are back in County Cup action tomorrow and return to RGS Worcester to take on Devon.
