SIX MONTHS ON FROM BLAST TRIUMPH – AND DARYL CLOSING IN ON BOWLING RECORD

it’s six months ago today since the rapids won the vitality blast – and daryl mitchell will be closing in on a worcestershire t20 record when the holders defend their title this summer.

mitchell is renowned as a prolific batsman in first class cricket as is demonstrated by an average above 40 opening the innings for the past decade.

but his medium pacers have also proved invaluable in white ball cricket including t20.

he has 85 wickets in the short format of the game – a tally only surpassed for the county by jack shantry (92) who is in his testimonial year at New Road.

last summer mitchell weighed in with 10 wickets on the way to the memorable finals day triumph at edgbaston on september 15.

but also important was his economy rate of 7.70 which was only bettered by dillon pennington and pat brown.

mitchell made his t20 debut for the county in 2005 against somerset at taunton and finished with figures of 3-0-26-2.

another player who featured in that game is still playing county cricket in somerset’s james hildreth.

the worcestershire line-up was: moore, hick, pipe, smith, de bruyn, peters, batty, leatherdale, malik, mitchell and price.
