SECONDS TRIAL FOR INDIAN ALL-ROUNDER ON RETURN TO CHAMPIONSHIP ACTION

Worcestershire Seconds return to Second Eleven Championship action tomorrow (Monday) when they take on Northamptonshire at the County Ground, Northampton.

The Seconds opened their Championship programme with an impressive innings victory over Gloucestershire at Kidderminster last month.

They followed that up by chasing down a stiff 361 target to defeat Leeds-Bradford UCCE at the same venue last week.

Worcestershire are giving a trial to Indian born all-rounder Roshan Balaji, who has played T20 cricket for Herefordshire this season.

The 19-year-old was a member of the 2020 Warwickshire CCC Academy intake and has played Second Eleven Cricket for the Bears.

This summer, he played alongside Worcestershire Seconds Coach Kadeer Ali for Smethwick in the Birmingham & District Premier League.

Another triallist in, Kashif Ali, who played against Leeds-Bradford UCCE, is being given another opportunity.

Gareth Roderick will captain the side in this game and will also keep wicket.

Kadeer Ali said: “It was a brilliant run chase against Leeds-Bradford, and we built partnerships, and the lads upped the gears as we went along.

“We needed ten an over during the last 22-23 overs and said ‘let’s give it a go’, and Taylor Cornall played brilliantly once he got going and took the lead role after Tom (Fell) was out.”
