SECONDS SET UP GAME ON FINAL DAY AT AGEAS BOWL IN CONCLUSION TO 2022 CAMPAIGN

Worcestershire Seconds went down by seven wickets to Hampshire in their final Championship match of the season at the Ageas Bowl.

The two sides set up a game on the final day after the loss of five sessions of play on days two and three to the weather.

Hampshire declared on their overnight 30-0 in reply to Worcestershire’s 370-9 declared and then the visitors forfeited their second innings.

It left Hampshire a target of 341 in 96 overs and a century from Nick Gubbins was largely responsible for them reaching their target with 13 overs to spare.

The outcome might have been closer had Gubbins not been dropped on 47 off the bowling of Adam Finch.

Finch was rewarded in his next over when he broke an opening stand of 110 when Felix Organ (61) edged to first slip.

Gubbins then added a further 136 with Fletcher Middleton for the second wicket.

Spinner Olly Davidson bowled Middleton for 46 and then Gubbins was finally dismissed for 145 from 224 balls, chipping Cameron Jones to Pat Brown at mid off.

But Tom Prest (64 not out) saw Hampshire across the finishing line. Finch finished with figures of 12-1-36-1, Jones 14-3-58-1 and Davidson 18-1-95-1.
