Worcestershire Seconds came off second best on the opening day of the three-day friendly match with Somerset Seconds at Taunton Vale.
The visitors were bowled out for 131 in 44.1 overs with Tom Kohler-Cadmore top-scoring with 37.
Somerset also lost early wickets but an unbeaten century from Adam Hose steered them to 274-5 by the close – a lead of 143.
Worcestershire opted to bat and openers Ollie Westbury and George Rhodes both fell to Josh Davey – caught behind and at first slip respectively.
It became 41-3 when Alexei Kervezee was trapped lbw by Jim Allenby.
Worcestershire looked on the way to recovery after Kohler-Cadmore – fresh from his century against Leeds-Bradford MCCU – and Ross Whiteley added 48 for the fourth wicket.
But then the picture changed either side of lunch with the loss of three wickets in four balls with the total on 89.
Kohler-Cadmore had battled away for 103 minutes and hit four fours in his 72 ball knock before he nicked Davey through to the keeper two balls before the interval.
Then the very next delivery from the same bowler saw Alex Hepburn lbw for a duck.
Two balls after lunch, Whiteley (19) was bowled by Ollie Sale.
Only Adam Wiffen (27 not out) of the lower order batsmen offered much resistance and the last seven wickets fell for 42 runs.
The Somerset reply started in similar fashion with Pat Brown picking up two wickets and Charlie Morris one as the home side wobbled on 53-3.
But then Hose took control and shared in partnerships of 81 with George Bartlett (50) and 97 with Ryan Davies (44).
Hose ended the day on 102 not out from 127 balls with 14 fours.
