The New Year has brought Sam Wyles great news already, selection for the England Physical Disability Cricket Team for their tour to Dubai in March 2014.
Sam, who works for Worcestershire Cricket as Cricket Development Coach in West and Central Worcestershire, has attended 3 winter training camps and was informed of his selection in the first few days of the New Year. These training camps have included team building trips to the Brecon Beacons, talks from previous England Players as well as cricket sessions.
He started work for Worcestershire Cricket in October 2013 and is involved in coaching children in primary and secondary schools as well as working with a number of clubs in his area. He also plays cricket for his local club Wythall CC, playing in the Warwickshire League on a Saturday afternoon.
The tour will last for 2 weeks in March and include 3 Twenty20 and 3 One Day International matches at the ICC Global Cricket Academy against Pakistan who are currently ranked number 1 in the world for Physical Disabilities Cricket. England, currently ranked second, will be looking for revenge following their 4-1 series defeat in 2012.
Sam commented, "I am absolutely over the moon with being selected, I have been working really hard at my game over the last year and could hardly believe it when I got told", he added, "I can't wait to get on the plane and enjoy the opportunity to visit and play in one of the leading cricket venues in the world."
Tom Hill, Cricket Development Director, couldn't speak highly enough of Sam, saying "Sam joined us in October last year and had a huge impact on the team immediately. He is part of the Participation Team who are currently working in over 150 schools within the county and I am sure he will be seen as a superb role model by both mainstream and disabled children across the county. All of us at Worcestershire Cricket and Worcestershire County Cricket Club wish him every success."
