Worcestershire keeper-batter Gareth Roderick has finished with the most dismissals in the 2024 Metro Bank One Day Cup after holding off a late challenge from Glamorgan’s Will Smale in this week’s final against Somerset.
Roderick ended the 50 over tournament with 23 victims comprising of 19 catches and four stumpings from eight matches.
At that point the 33-year-old was three ahead of Smale but the Glamorgan keeper had the chance to overhaul him in the final at Trent Bridge.
He picked up two early catches but that was the end of his own personal success although Glamorgan went onto lift the trophy with a 15 run win in a game reduced to 20 overs per side.
Joshua Blake (Surrey) and Ben Brown (Hampshire) were the next in line with 14 dismissals apiece.
It is another impressive performance by Roderick who has also claimed the second most dismissals so far in Division One of the Vitality County Championship.
He has to date been responsible for 45 dismissals – all of them caught – with only Surrey’s Ben Foakes (52) ahead of him.
The conclusion of the One Day Cup this week also confirmed Worcestershire opener Jake Libby as the second highest run scorer in the 2024 tournament with 526.
Libby scored one century and five fifties in a memorable campaign with only Leicestershire’s Peter Handscomb (539) amassing more runs.
