Rhodes Praises Cox After “one Of Best Wicket-Keeper Catches I Have Seen”

Steve Rhodes hailed Ben Cox's dismissal of Warwickshire tail-ender Chris Wright as "one of the best wicket-keeping catches I've ever seen."

Cox earned the Champagne Moment award at the county's 2014 awards night for his catch to dismiss Gloucestershire opener Michael Klinger off Mitchell McClenaghan bowling at express pace at Cheltenham last summer.

But former England and Worcestershire keeper Rhodes believes the catch today by Cox at Edgbaston – high away to his right off the bowling of Joe Leach – was also top drawer.

It was another excellent effort in what has been a fine start to the season with bat and gloves for Cox who also was Worcestershire's top scorer for the third successive innings with 45 out of 149 all out.

Director of Cricket Rhodes said: "It was one of the best wicket-keeping catches I've ever seen.

"It was a stunning effort from Ben Cox and testament to how well he has kept so far this year as well.

"Because it went so fast and was like a goalkeeper trying to keep the ball out of the top corner, it was a brilliant catch.

"I've seen a lot of good catches from keepers and that was one of the best."

That catch enabled Leach to finish with career best figures of 6-73 which surpassed his previous best figures of 5-36 against Kent at Tunbridge Wells last summer.

Rhodes said: "It was tremendous from Joe. He is such a whole hearted cricketer.

"We are really pleased for him, he is really popular in the dressing room, gives his all in the field with the ball or with the bat and he deserved that sixth wicket."
