RAPIDS SPINNER BRETT HELPS ENGLAND UNDER-19S REACH ICC SEMIS

It was a proud achievement for Worcestershire Women’s Rapids spinner, Phoebe Brett, in being part of the England Under-19 side which reached the semi-finals of the ICC Under-19 T20 World Cup in Malaysia.

Brett featured in four games in the tournament, including the second semi-final against India in Kuala Lumpur when she was the only England player to pick up a wicket.

She dismissed opener Gongadi Trisha (35) to break an opening partnership of 60.

Brett also played in the Group B games against Pakistan and USA and the Super Six encounter versus New Zealand.

Her overall analysis in the competition was 15-0-81-2 and her economy rate of 5.40 per over was the fourth best of the England bowlers.

Brett, who celebrated her 19th birthday in mid January, helped England to finish fourth overall in the tournament.

She followed in the footsteps of Ellie Anderson and Charis Pavely who were Women’s Rapids players when representing England Under-19s in the 2023 ICC Under-19 T20 World Cup.

Brett helped the Rapids win the 2023 West Midlands Regional Cup and last September was voted their Young Player Of The Year for the second year running.

India went onto defeat South Africa, again by nine wickets, in yesterday’s (Sunday’s) final.
