RAPIDS FACE BEARS AT EDGBASTON FOR NORMAN GIFFORD TROPHY

worcestershire rapids and birmingham bears will again be competing for the norman gifford trophy in this evening’s vitality blast north group encounter at edgbaston (7pm start).

the two teams will be hoping for better luck with the weather than last month when the scheduled meeting at New Road was abandoned without a ball being bowled.

it is the fourth year in a row that the two counties have gone head to head in the t20 competition for the additional silverware.

the rapids are the current holders of the trophy and last summer completed a blast double over the bears, winning by four runs at New Road and 15 runs at edgbaston.

norman gifford enjoyed a hugely successful first class career in which he ended with 2,068 wickets and played in 15 test matches and two odis for england.

the spinner was also a former captain of both worcestershire and warwickshire.

the trophy was originally named in his honour following a social media campaign amongst supporters of both teams.

it is the former mackeson trophy for which worcestershire and warwickshire competed annually in list a matches in the 1960s.
