PAVELY SHINES BUT WOMEN’S RAPIDS FRUSTRATED BY WEATHER IN SWITCH TO T20 ACTION

Worcestershire Women’s Rapids, and in particular star performer Charis Pavely, were left frustrated by the weather when they switched from One-Day to T20 action in the ECB Under-18 County Championship Group Two encounter with Shropshire at Wellington.

The Rapids, who have a 100% record in the One-Day Cup, had restricted Shropshire to 130-6 after putting them into bat with Pavely returning the excellent figures of 4-0-12-4.

She did not enter the attack until the 13th over with Shropshire 82-2 and bowled four ‘death’ overs on the trot.

Pavely picked up two wickets in her first over and bowled a total of 17 dot balls in her seven overs. Hannah Hardwick (2-0-8-1) was the other wicket-taker.

When Worcestershire batted, Pavely raced to 21 not out from nine balls with four boundaries and she and Ellie Anderson (11 not out), put on 38 in three overs.

But rain prevented any further play and the Rapids had to be content with one point.

They had been narrowly beaten by seven runs when they took on Warwickshire in the opening game of the day.

Amy Maund excelled in the powerplay after Warwickshire opted to bat with figures of 1-11 from her three overs.

Warwickshire reached 61-1 but then lost wickets at regular intervals to Pavely (4-0-24-2), Danielle Williams (2-0-9-2), Hardwick (3-0-13-1) and Charlie Baird (2-0-12-1) as they closed on 123-8.

Pavely again made a flying start with 22 from 10 balls including two fours and a six during the second over of the innings.

But the scoring rate gradually slowed after her dismissal to the last ball of the third over and, despite 19 from Rosie Ward, the task of scoring 15 from the final over was too great and the Rapids closed on 116-8.
