PAUL PRIDGEON HONOURED AS WORCESTERSHIRE VICE-PRESIDENT

Worcestershire are delighted to appoint Paul Pridgeon as a Honorary Life Vice-President, recognising his outstanding contribution to the club over more than 50 years—both on and off the field.

Pridgeon, a pace bowler, played a pivotal role in Worcestershire’s success, winning three County Championship titles (1974, 1988, 1989) and two Sunday League titles (1987, 1988). Over an 18-year playing career, he claimed 530 first-class and 217 List A wickets, cementing his place in the club’s history.

Born in Kingswinford, Pridgeon also played non-league football for Kidderminster and Stourbridge before dedicating himself to developing cricketing talent. For three decades, he co-led Worcestershire’s satellite academy alongside Dave Manning, while also serving as Cricket Professional at Shrewsbury School. His work helped shape the careers of many players, including current Worcestershire professionals Adam Finch, Ed Pollock, and Harry Darley.

Beyond coaching, Pridgeon contributed significantly behind the scenes. He served nine years on the Worcestershire Board, including four as Vice-Chair, a spell as Acting Chair, and four years as Chair of the Cricket Steering Group, which he founded.

Now Worcestershire’s 16th Vice-President, the 71-year-old was also awarded honorary life membership last year. Reflecting on the honour, he said: “It’s a lovely recognition of my time at the club.

“I’ve been involved in so many ways, from playing and coaching to working on the Board, and Worcestershire has always meant so much to me. It’s not something I expected, but I’m very grateful.”

Worcestershire CEO Ashley Giles paid tribute to Pridgeon’s impact, saying: “Paul has been an immense figure in Worcestershire’s history.

“Winning three County Championship titles is an incredible achievement, but his contributions since retiring from playing have been just as vital.

“His dedication to the club and the game makes this honour truly well deserved, and we look forward to seeing him at Visit Worcestershire New Road for many years to come.”
