OVERSEAS ROUND-UP DECEMBER 16 2023

Gareth Roderick continued his impressive form by hitting 86 off just 76 balls for Green Point CC in their final Western Province Premier Division encounter before the festive break as they defeated Hollywoodbets Bellville CC by 15 runs.

The Worcestershire keeper-batter followed up his 78 the previous week against Rondebosch with his fourth half century in 10 knocks for Green Point this winter.

He is their leading run-scorer with 373 in 10 innings at an average of 41.40 and it follows on from his 620 runs with six fifties at an average of 47.70 last winter.

Green Point’s captain came to the wicket at 60-1 after his side had been put in and held the remainder of the innings together.

He struck two sixes and 11 fours and shared in useful partnerships of 36, 45, and 37 before he was sixth out at 217.

Green Point went onto total 262-8 in their 50 overs and then restricted their opponents to 247-9 in reply.

Ed Pollock played a key role in enabling St. George CC to recover from 18-3 and gain a three wicket win over Randwick Petersham in a New South Wales first grade encounter.

Pollock came in at number five and helped launch a revival in his side’s fortunes in pursuit of a 230 target by adding 79 for the fourth wicket with Kurtis Patterson (90).

He made 38 off 41 balls with three sixes and three fours in another important contribution after his 82 not out the previous weekend in the win over Parramatta CC.

Pollock was fourth out at 97 and then useful lower order contributions in support of Patterson saw St. George to victory with 8.4 overs to spare.

Josh Baker deservedly earned a step up into first grade cricket in the same competition with Northern District CC and picked up two wickets in a 93 run win over Gordon CC.

Baker had taken 16 wicket in six second grade matches and he struck in successive overs to dismiss Jack Shelley (4) and Joseph Gillard (3) who was stumped.

In a high-scoring game, he ended with figures of 10-0-67-2 with Ross Pawson (3-51) the other main wicket-taker.

Gordon were bowled out for 259 in reply to Northern Districts formidable 352-2 in which Scott Rodgie and Lachlan Shaw both scored centuries.

Ethan Brookes was dismissed for three after opening for Prahran CC and then picked up one of the two wickets to fall in a Victorian Premier Cricket T20 fixture with Casey South Melbourne who won by eight wickets.

Brookes came on first change for the fourth over and dismissed opener Yash Pednekar (7).

He switched ends to bowl the seventh over and had figures of 2-0-9-1 but Casey South Melbourne reached their modest 116 target in 16. 3 overs.

Cameron Jones was dismissed for a first ball duck and bowled four overs for 25 runs after taking the new ball for Collingwood Park (112-5) who went down by nine wickets to Mount Barker Bulls (113-1) in an Albany and Districts Cricket Association T20 encounter.
