OLLY COX HITS 134 OFF 85 BALLS FOR ACADEMY IN 50 OVER MATCH AT KIDDERMINSTER

Olly Cox hit 134 off just 85 for Worcestershire CCC Academy during a 50 over encounter with Staffordshire Under-21s at Chester Road, Kidderminster.

Cox gave another demonstration of the potential which has earned him his first professional rookie contract from October 1, 2022.

The opener smashed eight sixes and 16 fours in his superb knock after Worcestershire had opted to bat on winning the toss.

He shared in partnerships of 80 for the first wicket with Ollie Walker (18) and 71 for the fourth with Oliver Halion (17).

Cox was eventually caught at mid wicket and was fourth out with the total on 209 in only the 33rd over.

But Worcestershire lost momentum after that, scoring only 63 runs off the final 17 overs, and closing their innings on 272-9 from 50 overs.

An unbeaten 93 from another opener in Staffordshire captain, Jack Redman, laid the foundations for his side’s four wicket win with seven balls to spare.

Redman, who hit seven fours in his 125 ball knock, figured in partnerships of 63, 74, 50 and 53.

Academy pace bowler, Cameron Jones (10-1-47-2) picked up two wickets.

There was one wicket apiece for Ben Clarke (10-0-47-1), captain Joe Stanley (10-0-54-1) and Ismael Mohammed (9.5-0-56-1).
