Worcestershire Rapids Women Storm to 101-Run Victory Over Kent

Published 03/08/2025

Worcestershire Rapids Women delivered a dominant all-round performance, securing a 101-run victory over Kent Women in the Metro Bank Women’s One Day Cup.

After being put into bat, the Rapids posted 244 all out, thanks to key partnerships and a standout innings from Bryony Gillgrass.

Openers Clare Boycott (43) and Gwen Davies (23) laid a strong foundation with a 56-run stand, weathering early pressure and rotating the strike effectively.

After a brief stumble losing 3 wickets in quick succession, Rapids regained momentum through an impressive 79-run partnership between Gillgrass and Ebony-Jade Tweats (41).

Gillgrass delivered a fluent and authoritative knock, scoring 80 from 78 balls, laced with 9 fours and 3 sixes.

Contributions from the lower order pushed the Rapids to a defendable total despite some tight spells from Kent bowlers, including Ella Darlington (6–2–21–2) and Olivia Barnes (10–1–35–2).

Chasing 245, Kent struggled to find rhythm and lost wickets at regular intervals.

The only significant resistance came from Sturge, who compiled a resilient 74 off 87 balls, showing poise under pressure.

Worcestershire’s bowlers were relentless. Hannah Hardwick and Amy Wheeler led the attack with superb spells, Hardwick taking 3 for 22 in 7 overs and Wheeler 2 for 31 in 7 overs, while Caitlin Baker-Smith 4.5-1-14-3.

There were also encouraging returns for Jess Beach and Flora Bertwistle, both making successful comebacks from injury by claiming a wicket each.

Kent were eventually bowled out for 143, sealing a commanding win for the Rapids.
