Worcestershire Women’s Rapids can today confirm a squad update, that sees a new signing join the squad ahead of Sunday’s T20 Blast fixture against Leicestershire, as well as some short-term departures.

Caitlin Baker-Smith joins the squad having stepped up from the Academy pathway, with the talented young all-rounder available for selection this Sunday.

With lots of cricket ahead of the Rapids across both formats between now and the end of the season, Baker-Smith has been fast-tracked into the senior side.

Head Coach, Ed Wilson, has been impressed by the youngster and says she is an exciting prospect.

“She’s only 15 but she has really stood out for me across the pathway this season.

“Caitlin offers good skills with the bat and ball but is also excellent in the field which is an area we want to excel in as a team.

“She will be part of the squad for the remainder of the season and is in line to make her debut against Leicestershire at the weekend.”

Ahead of this Sunday’s clash, Wilson confirmed there is also six players who are heading out on dual-registrations and can be recalled to play for Worcestershire at any time.

Players confirmed departing on short-term loan:

Chloe Hill – Northamptonshire Steelbacks

Samadhi Samarakoon – Herefordshire

Charlotte Roberts – Herefordshire

Emily Churms – Shropshire

Imogen Hill – Suffolk

Poppy Davies – Staffordshire

Wilson, said getting the players into competitive environments and playing regularly was the biggest factor behind the decision.

“It is really important for all of the girls to maximise their playing time at such a busy time of year and the chance for them to maintain their skills is one that everyone wanted to jump at.

“They are all eager to go out and impress which is only a good thing. They all have maintained a very professional attitude and hopefully go out and make a statement during their respective loan spells.”
