Taylor Runs Riot as Worcestershire Impress on Day Two in Cardiff

Published 25/03/2025

Worcestershire continued their encouraging pre-season form with another commanding performance on Day Two of their warm-up fixture against Glamorgan at Sophia Gardens.

Resuming on 16 for 3 in their first innings, Glamorgan were undone by a relentless Worcestershire bowling unit, headlined by seamer Tom Taylor, who claimed 4 for 21, showing control and sharpness throughout his 14 overs. New-ball partner Ben Allison added a further wicket to his overnight haul, to finish with an impressive 4 for 21.

Glamorgan’s Zain ul Hassan (47 off 121) and Colin Ingram (49 off 72) provided some resistance, but regular breakthroughs saw the home side finish on 185 for 12 in 63.3 overs, trailing Worcestershire’s declared 334 by 149 runs. There were wickets too for Ethan Brookes (2 for 31) and Yadvinder Singh, who impressed in a tidy spell of 1 for 1 from 4 overs.

Worcestershire opted to bat again in the final session, using the time to give further match practice to the top order. Gareth Roderick was once again steady at the crease, closing the day unbeaten on 39 from 83 balls alongside Adam Hose, who had breezily moved to 21 off just 25 balls, while Jake Libby (12) and Rob Jones (10) both got starts. Glamorgan’s Ben Morris was the pick of the bowlers in the second innings with 2 for 11 from six tight overs.

At stumps, Worcestershire were 89 for 3 from 25 overs, holding a lead of 238 with one day remaining in this pre-season encounter.

The fixture will continue into a third day tomorrow, offering both sides further opportunities for valuable red-ball preparation ahead of the competitive season.
