It was all smiles for Worcestershire Rapids Women’s new signing, Sanya Khurana, in January, as the youngster helped the Netherlands qualify for a first ever Women’s Cricket World Cup.
A sparkling 43* from just 37 balls, at a strike-rate of 116 helped see the Netherlands up to a competitive total against Bangladesh in their final Super Six outing, where, despite losing the match, Khurana’s side had already booked their spot at the tournament finals after an impressive start to the qualifying phase.
Wins over Zimbabwe and Scotland were followed up by a nail-biting two-run win over Nepal, as the Dutch side went three from three at the start of the tournament.
A 17-run victory over Thailand all but secured the Netherland’s place on the big stage, with qualification confirmed in the fifth match of the tournament courtesy of a DLS win over America.
The 20-year-old, who is poised to join the Rapids this Summer, will add some stardust to the middle-order of a side keen to kick on in 2026.
The Netherlands batter can now look forward to the World Cup, which gets underway in June of this year, hosted in England.
