Worcestershire Rapids hopes of reaching the Metro Bank One Day Cup quarter-final’s took a dent on Monday as the side suffered a chastening 10-wicket defeat at the hands of Glamorgan.
After winning the toss and electing to bat first at the Josh Baker Oval, skipper Clare Boycott took the middle with partner Gwen Davies looking to continue their recent run of positive batting form.
Boycott, like her teammates, could not have foreseen what was to follow however, as she was left stranded as the remaining not-out batter on 55, with the Rapids bundled out for 116 in just 26 overs.
Glamorgan flexed their muscles and duly knocked off the modest total to secure a 10-wicket win inside 18 overs.

Gwen Davies departure in the first over of the contest saw Boycott partnered with Ruby Davis, as they came together to add 27 for the second wicket.
Davis was then trapped LBW for 12, which sparked a middle-order collapse from the hosts, with Poppy Davies, Liv Gough and Caitlin Baker-Smith all falling for single figure scores as Worcestershire were reduced to 47-5.
Hannah Hardwick rallied with skipper Boycott, in a stand worth 39 to give the hosts some feint hope of a revival, but Hardwick’s dismissal for 20 in the 18th over signalled trouble for the side chasing a quarter-final place.
A disastrous seven ball spell then saw three further wickets fall for just one run, as Hill, Wheeler and Beach all fell victim of some disciplined Glamorgan bowling.
Boycott showed her class as she batted through for a standalone contribution of fifty, backing up her recent century earlier in the competition, but was left stranded on 55 not-out from 75 balls when Flora Bertwistle was the last batter out with the Rapids all out for 116.
In reply, Glamorgan’s openers Lauren Parfitt and Abbey Freeborn never put a foot wrong, holding off the challenges of the Worcestershire bowlers, as Ed Wilson’s side were subjected to a heavy 10-wicket defeat.
