Match Details VS Hampshire

Rothesay County Championship Division One: Worcestershire v Hampshire

Venue: Visit Worcestershire New Road

Date: 29th July 205

Scheduled start time: 11am

The Pears welcome Hampshire to Visit Worcestershire New Road on Tuesday, in desperate need of a turnaround in fortunes as their Rothesay County Championship Division One survival bid continues.

After a record-breaking draw when the sides met at the Utilita Bowl at the start of the month, Worcestershire fell to an ill-timed defeat against rivals Warwickshire last week and are now up against it at the wrong end of Division One.

Last Time Out

Worcestershire’s outstanding efforts across four-days weren’t quite enough to secure victory, as Hampshire battled through the final day to salvage a draw, as the Pears returned to Visit Worcestershire New Road with 16-hard earned points.

After two record breaking days with the bat, Worcestershire set their opponents a mammoth target of 679 to stay in the contest.

Followed up by bowling Hampshire out for 221 on Day Three, the visitors required seven-wickets for a famous win on the last day, but only Callum Parkinson could force a breakthrough during the morning session.

On the stroke of lunch, Liam Dawson and Ben Brown came together on a lifeless surface to bat through until 5pm as both sides shook hands with Worcestershire unable to force anymore breakthroughs and alter Hampshire’s total of 294-4.

The Opposition

Last Championship result: Drew with Nottinghamshire

Division One Table position: Sixth

One to watch: Tilak Varma

Hampshire travel to face Worcestershire on the back of three draws in succession in the Rothesay County Championship, keen to distance themselves from the teams hot on their heels at the lower end of Division One.

With spinner Liam Dawson away with England, Hampshire will be looking to turn their strong phases in matches into a complete performance.

39 points ahead of their next opponents at a congested lower half of the table, Hampshire will be looking to add to their batting bonus points, having only secured 11 this campaign.

Central to those hopes, will be Indian star Tilak Varma, who will be hoping to continue his impressive run in the red-ball competition in recent weeks.

The middle-order batter has returned phenomenal numbers, scoring 315-runs in just four innings, averaging 78.75 with a top score of 112.

With a bowling attack likely to be led by veteran Kyle Abbott, the away side will be hoping they can combine at Visit Worcestershire New Road to record a third win of the season.
