Worcestershire County Cricket Club is delighted to invite Members and fans to a very special event taking place during the Rothesay County Championship fixture against Hampshire, a fireside chat with Ashley Giles, one of the most iconic figures in English cricket, to mark the launch of his new autobiography, The King of Spain & I.

An Exclusive Cricketing Insight

Join us in the Chestnut Marquee on Day 3 (31 July) during the lunch interval for a candid and captivating conversation with Ashley Giles, hosted in an informal “fireside chat” format. This is a unique opportunity to hear first-hand from a man who has witnessed, and shaped, some of the most memorable moments in English cricket over the past two decades.

From his unforgettable final shot that clinched the 2005 Ashes, to his tenure navigating the national game through the turbulence of the COVID-19 pandemic, Giles’ journey has been filled with triumph, adversity, and resilience.

About the Book: The King of Spain & I

Giles’ new book is much more than a sporting memoir. It’s a deeply personal reflection on a life in cricket, one that lays bare the inner struggles of confidence and imposter syndrome, while charting the highs of rubbing shoulders with icons like Flintoff, Vaughan, Pietersen and Hussain.

Based on personal diaries and reflections spanning his early days at Warwickshire to his leadership roles within English cricket, The King of Spain & I offers:

•           A gripping inside account of the 2005 Ashes summer

•           Rare insight into the challenges of elite sport and administration

•           Honest stories of mental resilience, growth and redemption

•           The unfiltered truth behind the headlines

This is not just a book for cricket lovers,  it’s a tale of human endurance and reinvention that transcends the boundary ropes.

Don’t Miss Out

This is a free event for matchday ticket holders and Worcestershire Members. Attendees will have the opportunity to:

•           Purchase a signed copy of the book

•           Take part in a Q&A with Ashley

•           Enjoy a unique behind-the-scenes look at the game from someone who’s been at its very heart

Join us for an unforgettable afternoon with one of cricket’s great storytellers.
