Worcestershire County Cricket Club can confirm that fast-bowler Ben Dwarshuis has earnt a call-up to the Australia white-ball squad to face the West Indies later this month, bringing an end to his time with the club.

Joining ahead of this year’s Vitality T20 Blast, Dwarshuis arrived for his second-spell at Worcestershire after a busy winter playing in the Big Bash competition, representing the Sydney Sixers.

The Aussie quick made an instant impact, forging a dangerous opening bowling partnership with fellow overseas signing Jacob Duffy, whilst displaying his powerful batting prowess lower down the order for the Rapids.

During his 13 matches for the Rapids, Dwarshuis picked up 18 wickets, recording tournament best-figures of 3-30 against rivals, the Bears in his penultimate game.

The fast-bowler, says his decision to return to Visit Worcestershire New Road was a straightforward one, and one he is grateful for taking.

“I remember chatting to Hosey over the winter about it and as soon as the chance came up, I was really keen to come back and be part of the club again.

“This time around I have enjoyed just as much as my first spell and playing with the boys and helping out with the push for the quarter-finals has been so enjoyable.

“Hopefully, the lads can put in one more big shift on Thursday and see if it they can qualify, everyone has worked really hard over the group stage so it would be a nice reward to perhaps sneak through.”

The seamer’s call-up to the Australia squad for their upcoming white-ball series against the West Indies means Sunday’s win over Leicestershire Foxes was his final game for the club.

The 31-year-old’s impressive campaign for the Rapids caught the eye of the Australian selectors, something the renowned short-format player is very thankful for.

“Of course, I am very grateful for the opportunity to I have had here, but to play for Australia and represent my country is always a privilege, so that opportunity is very exciting.

“I wish the boys every success for the last game and the rest of the season and owe a massive thanks to all the players, staff and fans for making the last few-months so memorable.”
