Dan Lategan – A Rapid Rise

As far as storyline’s go, you will be hard pressed to find a more remarkable one than that of Dan Lategan.

In June, Lategan, was working behind the bar at Visit Worcestershire New Road, plying his trade as an academy player, hoping to one day to live out a lifelong ambition as a professional cricketer.

Wind forward three-months to last Sunday and the 19-year-old, South African born batter left the field to a standing ovation after hitting a career-best score of 78 to see Worcestershire Rapids through to a first List A final in 21-years.

One game away from getting his hands on the 2025 Metro Bank One Day Cup final trophy, Lategan said the thought of being involved on 20th September at Trent Bridge would be “just amazing”, but in professional manner, the youngster isn’t letting attentions drift too far ahead.

Enjoying a short break before attentions turn back to red-ball matters in Division One of the Rothesay County Championship, Lategan took some time to reflect on his meteoric rise through the ranks and took stock of what has been a breathless few months.
