NEW ROAD DOUBLE FOR SECONDS AS PART OF 2023 FIXTURE LIST

Worcestershire Seconds will play two games at New Road as part of a full programme of red and white ball cricket during the 2023 season.

They will have a schedule featuring 10 four-day Championship matches and 10 SET20 group matches.

With two three-day friendlies against Warwickshire and the South Asian Cricket Association also part of the fixture list, the Seconds can look forward to more than 50 days of cricket this summer.

Glamorgan will provide the opposition for the two games at New Road.

The two teams will do battle in a SET20 encounter on June 6 followed by a SEC fixture starting on July 17.

Assistant Coach Richard Jones said: “Playing at New Road will be good for all parties, good for the players, good for the club, and good for the local supporters as well.

“It also gives the youngsters experience of playing at and getting used to the ground where they will eventually hope to be playing at first team level.”

Kidderminster, Barnt Green, Stourport and Stourbridge will also be hosting Seconds fixtures during the season.

Jones said: “It is a good mix of red and white ball games and provides a decent amount of opportunities for the players to stake their claims for the first team.

“We’ve got quite a big squad and, all being well, we will have a large number of our staff players in the Seconds.

“Part and parcel of being a cricket or a professional sportsman is you’ve got to earn the right.

“At the start of the season, there are probably going to be a mixture of players who are disappointed at not being in the first team, plus a couple of youngsters who are trying to impress.

“Managing those different players at different stages of their career is going to be one of the challenges. I’m looking forward to it.

“It’s one of the challenges of the role that excites me.”
