Former England Test players Chris Lewis and Graeme Fowler will be helping current professional players learn from their experiences when they accompany Professional Cricketers’ Association staff on pre-season visits to the 18 first-class counties which start next week.
Lewis and Fowler will be passing on their knowledge and advice to the Worcestershire CCC squad on March 24.
Lewis will be talking about the importance of personal development and planning for life after cricket after he was jailed for 13 years in 2009 for smuggling liquid cocaine into England.
The former England all-rounder was released from prison last year and is committed to helping educate current players to ensure that they do not make the choices he did.
Lewis’s involvement with the PCA began when he attended the sixth annual Rookie Camp at Edgbaston last week and the pre-season visits will start at Leicestershire, the first of his three counties, on Monday February 29.
Fowler, the former Lancashire and Durham opening batsman, has already appeared in the PCA’s Mind Matters series discussing depression and mental health issues.
He will again discuss his experiences during the PCA county visits to help raise awareness of the support that the Association offers past and present players including the PCA Confidential Helpline.
