Worcestershire Head Coach Alan Richardson has praised the approach and determination shown by Adam Hose in striving to adjust to the demands of red ball cricket.
Hose had predominantly played white ball cricket until he made the move to Visit Worcestershire New Road for the start of the 2023 season.
But he has featured in 25 of the 28 Vitality County Championship matches during the past seasons – including all 14 matches in 2024.
Although maybe not producing the big numbers statistically, Hose has made several telling contributions in his desire to succeed in the four day game.
His half century in the century stand with Kashif Ali was crucial in the win at Durham and his 64 in the second innings helped Worcestershire recover and set Essex a challenging target in the memorable triumph at Chelmsford.
There have also been other important and 30s and 40s which may not grab the head-lines but helped Worcestershire to recover from losing early wickets on several occasions.
Richardson said: “It is really important to remember that Adam is still learning his game in red ball cricket. When we signed Adam, he talked passionately about trying to see where he could go in red ball cricket.
“For guys who predominantly play white ball cricket, it is not always that attractive to go and play red ball cricket – but Adam has been great.
“He throws his heart and soul into it which is huge I think for us. For someone who is so experienced in other formats, he is still trying to learn as much as he can about his red ball which I think is really important for the group.
“I think younger players will look at it and watch the older players and how they operate and go about things.
“To watch someone like Adam, who has played franchise cricket around the world and still takes the care and attention to what he does, and the passion he has for red ball cricket, is huge.”
Richardson added: “I know Adam won’t be pleased with his numbers but he should take a lot of heart and confidence from last season and he played some crucial knocks.
“I look at Durham away and just remember him and Kash against that attack. That was unbelievably hard for them and they showed an enormous amount of skill and character to get through that.
“That was amazing to watch and would have been as tough as it gets in county cricket against that attack.”
