HOME AND BOYCOTT IN 177 STAND AS WOMEN’S RAPIDS WIN DERBY BATTLE

Worcestershire Women’s Rapids made it two wins out of two in the West Midlands Regional Cup with an eight wicket win over local rivals Warwickshire Women at Stratford-upon-Avon.

Charlotte Roberts picked up three wickets as Warwickshire were restricted to 202-9 from 50 overs after electing to bat.

A superb opening stand of 177 between Milly Home and Clare Boycott then helped seal victory for Worcestershire with 16.4 overs to spare.

The Women’s Rapids are now level on points with joint leaders, Cricket Wales, who will be their next opponents at Panteg on August 28.

When Warwickshire batted, Roberts and Ellie Anderson claimed a wicket apiece with the new ball before Sophie Hughes (44) and Bethan Ellis (52) added 102 for the third wicket.

Spinner Flora Bertwhistle broke the stand at 122-3 and Jess Humby bowled Hughes six runs later before wickets fell at regular intervals.

Roberts picked up two more to finish with the excellent figures of 9-2-30-3 and she received excellent support from Bertwhistle (10-1-31-2) and Charis Pavely (5-0-19-2).

Home and Boycott then ensured Worcestershire raced to victory with their fine partnership spanning just 31 overs.

The initial powerplay yielded 64 runs with Home completing her half century off 50 balls and Boycott reaching fifty from 70 deliveries.

The stand was eventually broken when Home fell for 78 off 90 balls with 10 boundaries.

But Boycott remained undefeated on 83 from 101 deliveries with 11 fours and Pavely hit a rapid 21 not out from eight balls to complete victory in 33.2 overs.
