HAYNES AND UNDER-19S TO FACE SRI LANKA OR JAPAN IN PLATE COMPETITION

Worcestershire CCC batsman Jack Haynes and England Under-19s will now switch their attention to the ICC Under-19 World Cup Plate competition.

England’s hopes of qualifying for the Super League quarter-finals ended after successive defeats against West Indies Under-19s and then Australia Under-19s off the final ball.

But they will be looking to finish as high as possible in the overall placings for the tournament – starting with a match against either Sri Lanka or Japan.

It will be the first of three more games for England to determine their final position.

Haynes, who scored 27 and 31 in the opening two games, was one of four changes for today’s final Super League Group B match against Nigeria at Kimberley.

Nigeria were bowled out for 58 in the 28th over with George Hill and Hamidullah Qadri both picking up four wickets.

England reached their modest total in 11 overs for the loss of two wickets as Sam Young’s unbeaten 39 saw them home.
